My name is Cynthia Ouajain
For more than 15 years, I have provided psychotherapy and counseling services to individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, stress-related disorders, relationship difficulties, life transitions, self-esteem concerns, neurodevelopmental differences, and emotional regulation challenges. My therapeutic approach is integrative and relational, drawing from psychodynamic, psychoanalytic, attachment-based, cognitive-behavioral, and trauma-informed frameworks to create a safe, collaborative, and individualized therapeutic experience.
A significant part of my work involves supporting parents as they navigate the challenges of raising children and adolescents. Through parent coaching and consultation, I help parents strengthen communication, foster emotional connection, develop effective discipline strategies, understand developmental and behavioral concerns, and build practical skills for supporting their children's emotional, academic, and social well-being. My work is grounded in evidence-based approaches, including Positive Discipline principles, and emphasizes creating healthy, respectful family relationships.
I began my work at ACS Athens in 2012, serving in multiple counseling and assessment-related roles. During my tenure, I conducted psychoeducational assessments and ultimately served as a Clinical Psychologist and Diagnostic Assessment Specialist within the school's testing center. I later worked as a Welfare Counselor at St. Catherine's British School, supporting the emotional well-being and mental health needs of students and families.
Today, I maintain a private practice serving clients in both Greece and Sweden. I provide psychotherapy and counseling services to adolescents, adults, couples, and families through both online and in-person sessions. In addition to therapy, I conduct comprehensive psychoeducational assessments, parent coaching, educational consultations, and professional workshops for parents, educators, and mental health professionals.
I am a member of the American Counseling Association and the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. I remain committed to ongoing professional development and integrating the latest research into my clinical work.
My international professional and volunteer experiences have further enriched my understanding of human resilience, trauma, and cross-cultural mental health. I have worked extensively with humanitarian organizations, educational institutions, and community programs around the world.
As a mentor, I have developed and facilitated individualized support programs for children and adolescents, helping young people strengthen resilience, build confidence, and navigate personal challenges. I have also received specialized training in supporting survivors of sexual violence and domestic abuse, providing emotional support, crisis intervention, and practical guidance during recovery.
Through my work with the Red Cross Youth Division, I provided psychological, emotional, and humanitarian support to hundreds of individuals facing significant adversity, including refugees displaced by war and conflict. Additionally, at Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, I offered emotional support to children undergoing cancer treatment and to their families throughout the treatment process.
Alongside my clinical practice, I have participated in research initiatives within universities, schools, and mental health settings, contributing to the development of evidence-based interventions and programs that promote resilience, psychological well-being, and healthy development.
